** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Umatilla is a reservoir on the Columbia River along the Oregon-Washington border; because it is a large, flowing impoundment its surface temperatures vary noticeably through the year. In winter the water is cold, commonly in the low 40s °F (about 4–7 °C). Spring brings a gradual warming into the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (8–13 °C) as runoff and air temperatures rise. By summer the surface often reaches the comfortable range of roughly 60–70 °F (15–21 °C), and on warm, calm spells can climb into the low- to mid-70s °F (about 22–24 °C). Temperatures typically decline again in autumn, falling back through the 50s °F (10–15 °C) as the season progresses.
Swimming is generally possible at Lake Umatilla, particularly in summer when surface temperatures are warmest, but it is not uniformly recommended everywhere. Because this is a reservoir on a major river, boat traffic, variable currents, sudden depth changes and occasional water-quality advisories can affect safety; areas near the dam or busy launches are hazardous. Local parks and beaches with posted swim zones are the safest places to enter the water, and seasonal advisories about algae or bacterial concerns should be checked before swimming. Even in summer, cold-water shock and hypothermia risk from cooler, deeper water means caution is warranted.
