*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Henshaw’s water temperatures vary considerably with the seasons and depth. Surface water in summer typically warms into the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (about 18–24 °C), while spring and fall usually see more moderate surface readings of roughly 50–65 °F (10–18 °C). In winter months the reservoir commonly drops to the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (7–13 °C). Because Henshaw is a reservoir with appreciable depth, deeper water remains substantially colder year-round, which can make sudden movements from warm to cool layers uncomfortable or hazardous for swimmers unprepared for cold water shock.
Swimming at Lake Henshaw is possible in informal areas when permitted by local management, but it is not the same as a lifeguarded public beach and conditions often limit recreational swimming. Restrictions may be imposed for safety, changing water levels, maintenance of the reservoir for water supply, or occasional water-quality advisories; there are also no consistent lifeguard services, and cold or stratified water increases risk. Visitors should check current local rules and advisories, be aware of the seasonally cool temperatures, and take appropriate precautions if choosing to swim.
