** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Griffin, part of Florida’s Harris Chain of Lakes, experiences warm surface waters for much of the year. Typical seasonal surface temperatures run roughly 55–68°F (13–20°C) in winter, about 68–78°F (20–26°C) in spring, 78–90°F (26–32°C) or higher in summer, and 75–85°F (24–29°C) in fall. Short cold snaps can push temperatures a few degrees lower in winter, while shallow, sun-warmed areas may exceed the typical summer range. These values are approximate and vary with weather, depth, shading and inflows from connecting rivers and marshes.
Swimming in Lake Griffin is physically possible when temperatures are warm, but there are important safety and management considerations. The lake has abundant aquatic vegetation, frequent boat traffic, and is habitat for alligators and other wildlife; water quality can also be affected by runoff and occasional algal blooms. There are no widespread lifeguarded public beaches on the lake, so many local agencies and park managers advise caution or discourage casual swimming in open waters. If people choose to swim, they should check current local advisories, stay in designated areas if available, and be mindful of natural hazards.
