** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Lake Geneva is one of Europe’s largest Alpine lakes and strongly influences the local climate along its shores. Its large volume causes water temperatures to change slowly over the year. In winter, surface temperatures typically range from about 5–7 °C (41–45 °F). During spring, gradual warming brings temperatures to around 10–15 °C (50–59 °F). The warmest period is summer, when July and August usually see water temperatures of about 20–24 °C (68–75 °F), with occasional peaks near 25 °C (77 °F) during heatwaves. In autumn, the lake cools slowly and often remains above 15 °C (59 °F) into October.

Swimming in Lake Geneva is fully allowed and very popular. The lake has excellent water quality and many public beaches, lidos, and accessible shorelines. Thanks to its depth and thermal stability, Lake Geneva offers one of the longest swimming seasons in Switzerland. Summer conditions are comfortable for all swimmers, while late spring and early autumn remain suitable for those accustomed to cooler water.
