Geneva sits at the western end of Lake Geneva, where the Rhône leaves the lake. Water temperature follows a clear seasonal pattern moderated by the lake’s large volume. In winter, surface temperatures are typically about 5–7 °C (41–45 °F). Spring warming is gradual, with values commonly reaching 10–15 °C (50–59 °F). Summer offers the warmest conditions: in July and August the lake usually ranges from about 20–24 °C (68–75 °F), with occasional peaks near 25 °C (77 °F) during heatwaves. In autumn, the lake cools slowly and often remains above 15 °C (59 °F) well into October.
Swimming in Lake Geneva at Geneva is fully allowed and very popular. The water quality is generally high, and numerous public beaches, lidos, and lakeside access points make swimming easy and safe. Thanks to the lake’s depth, it retains heat, extending the swimming season beyond midsummer.
