*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Chetac in northern Wisconsin experiences a clear seasonal cycle in surface water temperature. In spring the lake usually warms from near freezing up to roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and air temperatures climb. Summer surface temperatures commonly rise into the upper 60s to mid-70s °F (about 20–24°C), and on warm, calm stretches can reach the upper 70s °F (around 25–26°C). Early fall sees cooling back into the 50s–60s °F (10–16°C) as the lake begins to turnover. In winter the surface approaches freezing, often hovering near 32–39°F (0–4°C) under ice. These ranges describe surface conditions; deeper water remains colder year-round and thermal stratification in summer can create cooler layers below the surface.
Swimming is generally permitted in Lake Chetac and is most comfortable in mid to late summer when surface temperatures are warmest. Local access points, private shorelines, and any designated beaches may have different rules, and occasional water-quality advisories or algae blooms can restrict swimming for health reasons. Cold shoulder seasons carry a significant risk of cold-water shock or hypothermia, so swimming outside the warm summer months is not recommended. Always check current local conditions and posted guidance before entering the water.
