** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kanopolis Lake is a midwestern reservoir whose surface temperatures change markedly through the year. In winter the water typically hovers near freezing to the mid‑40s, roughly 32–45°F (0–7°C). Spring sees a gradual warm‑up, often in the range of 45–65°F (7–18°C) as air temperatures rise and the shallows warm first. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings commonly between 70–85°F (21–29°C) and occasional short spikes toward the upper 80s (around 31°C) during heat waves. In autumn the lake cools again to about 50–70°F (10–21°C). Deeper water remains colder year‑round, and surface temperatures can vary substantially from one part of the reservoir to another depending on depth, wind and sun.
Swimming at Kanopolis is generally allowed in designated areas overseen by the state park and local authorities. Access and use are subject to seasonal rules and occasional temporary closures for safety or water‑quality concerns; many popular beaches do not have lifeguards, so swimmers should be self‑aware and cautious. Because of changing temperatures, submerged hazards, boat traffic and the potential for algae events, visitors are advised to check current conditions before entering the water and to avoid swimming alone, especially outside the warmest months.
