*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lovewell Reservoir, in northeastern Kansas, experiences a wide annual swing in surface water temperatures typical of inland plains reservoirs. In summer, surface waters commonly warm to roughly 75–85°F (24–29°C) on hot afternoons, making conditions more comfortable for swimming. Late spring and early fall are transitional, with surface temperatures often between about 45–65°F (7–18°C) depending on air temperature and recent weather. During winter the lake can cool to near freezing, commonly around 33–40°F (1–4°C) at the surface, and portions may ice over in colder spells. Deeper or shaded coves tend to remain cooler year-round than exposed shallows, and temperatures can change quickly with front passages or rain events.
Swimming at Lovewell Reservoir is generally possible because the lake has public access points, campgrounds and shoreline used for recreation, but conditions and rules vary by area and season. There are not always lifeguards on duty, so swimmers should heed posted signs, follow local regulations, and be mindful of boat traffic, sudden drops or underwater hazards. Water quality can fluctuate—algal blooms or runoff after heavy rain can prompt advisories—so checking current local guidance before entering the water is advisable for safety.
