The “Holubi Ozera” (Blue Lakes) near Slavuta in Khmelnytskyi Oblast are a cascade of former sand and peat quarries filled with groundwater, known for their clear, cool water. Because of their depth (some reaching around 8 m, though average depths are closer to 3–4 m) and shaded woodland surroundings, the water tends to stay relatively cool—even in summer. In the warmest months, surface temperatures in the sunlit, shallow edges might rise to about 22–25 °C, while in deeper parts it likely remains cooler, around 18–20 °C. Early in the season or on cloudy days, the water will feel notably cold for many swimmers.
Swimming at Holubi Ozera is possible and popular among locals and visitors, especially in the larger lakes of the cascade where the banks are sandy or gently sloping. The water clarity and natural beauty make these lakes quite attractive for bathing, camping, and relaxation. However, some of the smaller or overgrown ponds are less suitable for swimming due to reeds, sharp drop-offs, or uneven bottoms, so choosing a more open, maintained section is safer and more comfortable.
