** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Five Mile Lake, located in the White Mountains region of eastern Arizona, sits at a relatively high elevation surrounded by forests and cool mountain air. Because of its altitude, the lake’s water temperature is considerably lower than that of desert or lowland reservoirs. During winter, the surface temperature typically ranges between 39 and 46°F (4–8°C), and portions of the lake may even freeze during particularly cold periods. In spring, as snowmelt feeds the lake and air temperatures rise, the water warms to about 50–60°F (10–16°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures averaging 66–72°F (19–22°C) in July and August. By autumn, the lake begins to cool again, returning to around 55–62°F (13–17°C) before the onset of winter.
Swimming is technically allowed at Five Mile Lake, but the cool temperatures and high-elevation conditions make it more suitable for brief dips than for extended swimming. The lake is primarily used for fishing, boating, and camping, attracting visitors seeking a quiet and refreshing mountain atmosphere. During midsummer, when air temperatures are mild and the water reaches its peak warmth, swimming can be pleasant for those accustomed to cooler mountain lakes. However, the chilly water throughout much of the year limits swimming to short recreational use rather than all-day water activities.
