*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Clam Lake in northern Wisconsin experiences pronounced seasonal changes in water temperature. In winter the lake is typically ice-covered and water just beneath the ice stays near freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring thaw brings surface temperatures up to roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake mixes and warms. Peak summer usually yields the warmest swimming conditions, with surface readings commonly in the 65–78°F range (18–26°C) on sunny, calm days; shallow bays can run a few degrees warmer. In fall the surface cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as the lake returns toward winter stratification.
Swimming at Clam Lake is allowed in the sense that people commonly enter the water, but opportunities depend on access, local rules and water conditions. Public access points and private shorelines vary, and there may be no lifeguarded beaches, so swimmers should be self-reliant. For comfort and safety most recreational swimming is concentrated in summer when temperatures reach the mid‑60s to upper‑70s °F (18–26°C); cold spring or fall waters can pose hypothermia or cold‑shock risks. Always observe posted advisories and exercise caution around ice in winter.
