** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Canyon Lake’s water temperature varies widely with the seasons and with depth. Surface readings in summer commonly reach the mid-to-high 70s up to around 90°F (about 25–32°C) in shallow, sun-warmed areas, while spring surface temperatures typically range from the mid-50s to the upper 60s °F (roughly 13–20°C). Fall sees a gradual cooling back into the 60s–70s °F (16–24°C), and winter surface temperatures can fall into the mid-40s to low 60s °F (about 7–16°C). Because the lake is a reservoir on the Guadalupe River, colder inflows and deeper water layers can be substantially cooler than surface readings, so actual temperature at swimming depth depends on location and recent weather.
Swimming in Canyon Lake is generally permitted and is a popular recreational activity, particularly during the warm months when surface temperatures are most comfortable. Public access areas and beaches provide places to enter the water, but conditions vary and swimmers should be cautious: many areas are unguarded, boat traffic and sudden drop-offs are present, and water quality or levels can change with rainfall and management actions. People choose to swim when temperatures are warm enough for comfort and safety, while cooler seasons or colder depths may limit swimming to brief exposures or be unsuitable without protective gear.
