** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bucura Lake (Romanian: Lacul Bucura) is a high-altitude glacial lake whose water remains cold through the year. In winter and much of spring the surface is commonly frozen and the liquid water beneath the ice is close to 0 °C (32 °F). During the brief alpine summer, roughly from June to September, surface temperatures typically range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), with the warmest days occasionally pushing toward 14 °C (57 °F). By early autumn the lake cools rapidly again, returning toward near‑freezing conditions as ice begins to form. These figures reflect typical conditions for a mountain lake at around 2,000 meters elevation and can vary with weather, season length, and the year’s particular warmth.
Swimming in Bucura Lake is physically possible but uncommon and generally not comfortable; the cold temperatures pose a real risk of cold shock and hypothermia even for strong swimmers. In addition to the health risks, the lake lies within a protected mountainous area where visitors are expected to minimize impact; park rules and local guidance often discourage bathing to protect fragile alpine ecosystems and out of concern for visitor safety given the remote location and sudden weather changes. Visitors who choose to enter the water should do so with caution and be prepared for very cold conditions.
