** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lacul Bâlea (Lacul Bâlea) is a glacial lake high in the Făgăraș Mountains of central Romania, sitting at about 2,034 meters elevation. Because of its altitude and alpine setting, water temperatures remain low throughout the year. In summer months the surface temperature typically ranges from roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) on warmer days, while spring and autumn see colder values around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) as snowmelt and cool nights dominate. In winter the lake usually freezes over and liquid-water temperatures near the ice are close to 0 °C (32 °F) or below; thawing can be delayed well into late spring.
Swimming is technically possible but uncommon and generally discouraged. There is no widespread organized bathing infrastructure, and the cold temperatures combine with high altitude to create a real risk of cold shock and hypothermia even in summer; for those reasons most visitors avoid prolonged immersion. Additionally, the lake lies within a sensitive mountain environment where minimal-impact behavior is expected, so deliberate swimming or washing is often discouraged to protect the ecosystem. A brief, cautious dip is sometimes attempted by experienced visitors in warm spells, but it carries clear safety and conservation considerations.
