** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Anderson Ranch Reservoir typically runs cool for much of the year. Surface temperatures in winter commonly hover near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and in spring they usually rise into the mid-30s to mid-50s Fahrenheit (2–13°C) as snowmelt and inflows continue. During summer, surface water can warm to a more comfortable range, often about 60–75°F (15–24°C) on warm afternoons, though evenings and cloudy periods bring lower readings. In fall the surface cools again, commonly falling to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C). Because the reservoir is relatively deep in places and fed by mountain inflows, colder water persists below the surface and thermoclines can form, so deeper areas remain much colder than surface measurements imply.
Swimming is generally possible in designated recreation areas at Anderson Ranch Reservoir, but activity is constrained by safety and management considerations. Cold water temperatures, especially early and late in the season or near cold outflows, can cause cold shock and hypothermia; boat traffic, steep drop-offs, and variable currents around the dam and inlets also create hazards. For these reasons visitors are advised to swim only in marked, supervised spots when available, wear flotation if venturing farther from shore, and heed posted regulations and watercraft patterns to reduce risk.
