** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
C. J. Strike Reservoir, a broad impoundment on the Snake River in southwestern Idaho, exhibits substantial seasonal variation in surface water temperatures. In spring the lake typically runs cool, roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as snowmelt and cold river inflows moderate warming. Summer brings the warmest surface conditions, commonly 65–80°F (18–27°C) in open, shallow bays and occasionally pushing into the low 80s (around 28°C) on very hot afternoons and in sheltered coves. Fall temperatures usually fall back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) band as air temperatures drop, and winter surface readings often hover near freezing to the low 40s°F (about 1–7°C), with deeper water remaining colder and sometimes stratified.
Swimming at C. J. Strike is generally allowed because the reservoir is managed for multiple recreational uses, including boating and shoreline access, and popular recreation sites provide informal swimming areas. There are few lifeguarded beaches, so swimmers should exercise caution: watch for cold-water shock and hypothermia, boat traffic, underwater hazards, and occasional algal blooms or localized poor water quality. Certain zones near the dam, intake structures, or wildlife protection areas may be posted as off-limits, so following local signage and seasonal advisories is important.
