** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Albufeira da Barragem do Ermal, in the Braga District, is a freshwater reservoir whose surface temperatures vary with the seasons. In winter the water is typically cold, around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), while spring temperatures rise to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) as the weather warms. Summer can bring the warmest conditions, often in the 18–24 °C range (64–75 °F) and occasionally reaching the mid-20s °C (about 79 °F) during heat waves. In autumn the lake cools again to approximately 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Local microclimates, depth, inflows and recent weather can shift these ranges, so conditions may vary from year to year.
Swimming at Albufeira da Barragem do Ermal is not typically managed as an official municipal bathing area; informal swimming and water sports do take place, especially in summer, but access and safety can be limited. Authorities may discourage or restrict bathing because reservoirs serve hydroelectric and water-supply functions, have fluctuating levels, submerged structures and sudden currents, and often lack lifeguards or monitored water-quality status. If you plan to swim, check on-site signage and any municipal guidance or seasonal water-quality reports, and exercise caution regarding temperature, depth changes and potential hazards.
