** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The reservoir known in Portuguese as Albufeira da Barragem de Travassos, in Braga District, experiences a marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature typical of inland northern Portugal. In winter months temperatures commonly fall to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), rising in spring to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Peak summer surface readings often sit between 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), and in warm years can briefly approach the upper twenties Celsius (about 77–82 °F). During autumn the water cools back toward the spring range, with stratification and local weather influencing short-term fluctuations. These values are approximate and can vary with depth, inflows, and recent weather patterns.
As a managed reservoir, the Albufeira da Barragem de Travassos is primarily intended for water storage and local uses, so bathing and swimming are often discouraged or subject to municipal rules rather than freely promoted like at coastal beaches. Restrictions exist mainly for reasons of water quality protection, safety (steep banks, sudden depth changes and submerged structures) and to safeguard supply operations. Where swimming is permitted it is usually informal and done at one’s own risk; visitors should follow on-site signage and check with local authorities before entering the water and take normal precautions against cold-water effects and hidden hazards.
