Ovidiopol lies on the northern shore of the Dniester Estuary in southern Odesa Oblast, where the estuary widens and the water has a calm, semi-saline character. Because the Dniester brings in a large volume of warm freshwater from inland areas, the estuary near Ovidiopol tends to warm up quickly in late spring. During summer, the water temperature often reaches 23–27°C, depending on the weather and wind direction. On sunny, still days, the surface layer can feel almost like that of a southern lake — warm and gentle, ideal for bathing.
Swimming here is quite popular among locals, especially in spots with sandy or grassy banks outside the center. The estuary’s water is generally calm, with only light waves, making it comfortable even for less experienced swimmers. However, since the Dniester Estuary is a dynamic body of water influenced by both river and sea, salinity and clarity can vary.
