** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gökçekaya Dam, on the Sakarya River in central Anatolia, forms a large reservoir whose water temperature follows the region’s continental climate. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run about 3–8 °C (37–46 °F) in winter, rise to 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) in spring, reach roughly 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) in summer, and cool to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in autumn. These values vary with depth, inflows, wind and sunlight; deeper water and areas influenced by turbine releases are often several degrees colder than shallow bays. Sudden changes in temperature can occur near outlets where colder hypolimnetic water is discharged.
As a working hydroelectric reservoir, swimming at Gökçekaya is generally discouraged or restricted for safety and operational reasons rather than for temperature alone. Strong currents around spillways and outlet structures, fluctuating water levels, submerged hazards, boat traffic and possible rapid cold-water upwelling create significant risks. Where local authorities or landowners permit access in sheltered, shallow areas during warm months, surface temperatures in summer can be comfortable for bathing, but visitors should always check signage and follow official guidance because conditions and rules can change.
