*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Avanos is a small town in Nevşehir province situated on the Kızılırmak River rather than a large natural lake; there are some calmer backwaters and small reservoirs nearby that visitors sometimes associate with the town’s waters. Seasonal water temperatures in this central Anatolian setting are variable: winter temperatures commonly sit near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), while spring sees a rise to about 5–15 °C (41–59 °F). In peak summer months water can warm to roughly 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), and autumn typically brings a cooling range of around 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). These figures are approximate and depend on local conditions, recent weather, and whether you are in a slower backwater or in the main river flow.
Swimming in and around Avanos is not widely promoted as an organized activity. There are few if any official bathing beaches or lifeguarded sites, and the main river channel can have currents, fluctuating water quality and submerged hazards, which lead local authorities and guides to discourage casual swimming in many spots. That said, during warm summer weeks some residents and visitors may swim in sheltered, calm areas where temperatures reach the mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F). For safety and legal reasons it is best to follow local guidance and posted signs before entering the water.
