** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Zărnești sits at the edge of the Piatra Craiului massif and is crossed by the Bârsa and several mountain streams, so the local inland waters tend to be cold and variable. In winter surface temperatures in rivers and small lakes often hover near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Spring brings meltwater and rapid rises, with typical ranges of about 2–12 °C (36–54 °F). In summer the warmer lowland stretches and shallow ponds can reach about 12–22 °C (54–72 °F), while mountain-fed streams and higher-altitude tarns usually remain much cooler, commonly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). Autumn sees a steady decline, with most waters cooling to roughly 4–14 °C (39–57 °F) before winter freeze or ice cover.
Swimming is physically possible in some rivers and reservoirs around Zărnești during the warmest weeks, but it is neither widespread nor officially organized in most places. Many stretches are fast-flowing, cold and lack lifeguards or facilities, and parts of the surrounding area fall within protected park zones where bathing may be discouraged or restricted to protect sensitive habitats. For these reasons recreational swimming is generally occasional and seasonal; when undertaken it requires attention to currents, low temperatures that can cause cold shock, and local rules that may prohibit swimming in conservation areas.
