*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sfântu Gheorghe, located in central Romania, is surrounded by small lakes and river stretches whose temperatures follow a temperate continental pattern. In winter the surface of most lakes is close to freezing, typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). During spring waters gradually warm to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). In summer, shallow lakes and sheltered bays commonly reach comfortable swimming temperatures of about 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), and during heat waves surface readings can briefly rise into the mid-to-high 20s °C (around 79–82 °F). Autumn sees cooling back to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before the first frosts.
Swimming is possible in the Sfântu Gheorghe area, but generally only recommended in designated bathing spots or managed reservoirs because of safety, water quality and local rules. River stretches may have strong currents or variable depths and are not always suitable for casual swimming. Water below roughly 18 °C (64 °F) can feel cold and increase the risk of cramps or hypothermia with prolonged exposure, so summer is the main season for recreational swimming. Visitors should follow posted signs, check local water quality reports, and prefer supervised areas where lifeguards and clear access points are provided.
