Sfântu Gheorghe, located in central Romania, is surrounded by small lakes and river stretches whose temperatures follow a temperate continental pattern. In winter the surface of most lakes is close to freezing, typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). During spring waters gradually warm to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F).
