Turda is best known for Salina Turda, the old salt mine turned attraction that contains an underground lake with remarkably stable temperatures. The water in the chamber typically sits around 10–12 °C (50–54 °F) throughout the year because the mine environment is thermally constant and insulated from surface weather. That temperature is far colder than typical summer bathing waters and, combined with the mine’s confined space and preservation rules, means swimming is not allowed in the subterranean lake; visitors can use small electric boats or simply enjoy the views and therapeutic microclimate from designated walkways instead.
