Comănești, a small town in the North-East of Romania, lies in a valley of the Trotuș River and is close to a number of small lakes and reservoirs used for recreation. Water temperatures in these local lakes follow the regional seasonal pattern: in summer the surface commonly warms to roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) on typical sunny days, occasionally reaching the high twenties in heatwaves. In late spring temperatures usually range from about 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as waters warm, while early autumn sees cooling to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). Winter brings near‑freezing conditions, with surface temperatures around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and frequent ice cover that lowers any practical chance of open‑water swimming.
