*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mondim de Basto (Portuguese: Mondim de Basto) is a mountainous municipality in the Vila Real District where rivers have been dammed to form reservoirs and there are also small natural mountain lakes. Water temperature in these bodies varies with altitude, depth and season: in winter surface temperatures commonly sit between about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), spring and autumn typically range from roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), and in the warmest weeks of summer surface readings can reach around 20–24 °C (68–75 °F). Deep or shaded sections remain noticeably cooler year‑round, and short-term fluctuations occur after heavy rain or heat spells, so these figures are approximate rather than fixed.
Swimming is possible in Mondim de Basto but is regulated and conditional. Designated bathing spots and informal swimming areas are usually used in the summer when temperatures are more comfortable, but some reservoirs have restrictions because they supply drinking water or are managed for hydropower, and local signage may prohibit entry. Even where swimming is allowed, visitors should be aware of cold water risks, sudden depth changes, underwater currents near dam outlets, and limited lifeguard cover; checking current local rules and posted water‑quality information is advisable before entering the water.
