** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vila Verde (Portuguese: Vila Verde), in the district of Braga, sits in a temperate, Atlantic-influenced zone where small lakes, reservoirs and river backwaters respond to seasonal weather. Typical surface-water temperatures in these freshwater bodies range roughly from 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) in winter, rise to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in spring, and reach their warmest in summer at approximately 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with occasional shallow spots warming toward 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) during heat spells. In autumn temperatures usually cool back to the spring band, around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Local variations depend on depth, shading, inflow from rivers and recent weather.
Swimming opportunities in Vila Verde are therefore seasonal and site-dependent. In warmer months informal bathing is common in suitable, accessible spots and in officially designated areas where water quality is monitored and signage permits it; these places are used because temperatures are more comfortable and safety measures may be in place. Other lakes, reservoirs or river stretches may prohibit swimming for reasons of water quality (algal blooms, contamination), safety (strong currents, submerged hazards) or ownership and regulation. Visitors should follow local signs, municipal guidance and recent water-quality information before entering the water.
