** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The municipality of Prato in Tuscany is crossed by the Bisenzio River and a number of smaller streams, while a few artificial reservoirs and lakes lie within easy driving distance. Water temperatures in these inland bodies are notably cooler than the nearby sea and vary by season and depth. Typical river temperatures in the Prato area run about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, rise to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in spring, reach around 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) during the warmest summer months, and fall back to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in autumn. Shallow reservoirs and managed lakes can be a few degrees warmer at the surface in summer, often reaching 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), while deeper or shaded stretches remain cooler.
Swimming opportunities are therefore very seasonal. Within Prato itself, rivers are generally not designated bathing areas because of variable flow, water quality concerns and the absence of lifeguards, so informal swims are discouraged for safety and public-health reasons. By contrast, nearby monitored lakes and reservoirs that permit recreational use offer safer, supervised options in summer when surface temperatures are highest and water quality is regularly checked. Outside of those managed sites, cold temperatures in shoulder seasons and changing currents make swimming inadvisable.
