** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sarzana itself does not sit on a natural lake; it lies close to the mouth of the Magra River and a few kilometres from the Ligurian Sea, so most local swimming takes place in coastal waters rather than in a lake. Sea-surface temperatures off the Sarzana/Marina di Carrara–Lerici stretch typically range from about 12–15 °C (54–59 °F) in winter, rising through spring to roughly 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). Summer temperatures commonly reach 22–26 °C (72–79 °F) with peak values occasionally touching 26–27 °C (79–81 °F) in late July and August. In autumn the sea cools back to about 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) before winter sets in.
Swimming is generally allowed and popular at the organized beaches near Sarzana and along the nearby Gulf of La Spezia, where lifeguards, facilities and designated bathing areas make swimming safe in summer months. Swimming in the Magra River or any small local reservoirs is more variable: currents, water quality after rain events, and local regulations can make river swimming discouraged or restricted, so municipal notices and water-quality reports should be checked. In short, seaside bathing is the main, permitted option with comfortable summer temperatures, while inland or river swimming requires caution and attention to local rules.
