Florence (Firenze) sits on the Arno in the heart of Tuscany, but the nearest recreational lakes — above all Lake Bilancino to the north — are where visitors head for lake swimming. Water temperatures vary by season and by the lake’s size and depth: in spring you can expect roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), summer highs commonly reach 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) on shallower, sun-warmed basins, autumn cools back to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), and winter surface temperatures often fall to around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). Smaller, shallower lakes warm faster in summer but also cool quickly in shoulder seasons.
Swimming is possible at several lakes near Florence, but conditions and rules differ.
