*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tepelenë (Albanian: Tepelena) in Gjirokastër County sits on the Vjosa River and adjacent impoundments that form small lake-like reservoirs. Water temperatures there vary with the seasons: in spring surface readings commonly range from about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) as snowmelt and rain feed the river; in summer temperatures typically rise to roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) at the warmest times of July and August; autumn sees cooling to around 14–20 °C (57–68 °F); and winter surface values often drop to near 6–10 °C (43–50 °F). Localised conditions—depth, shading, inflows from mountain streams and recent weather—can shift these numbers by a few degrees.
Swimming in the lake-like areas and calmer stretches of the Vjosa around Tepelenë is commonly practised in summer when temperatures are most comfortable, and many residents and visitors swim recreationally. However, swimming is not universally safe everywhere: strong currents, sudden depth changes, and proximity to hydro infrastructure can make some spots hazardous, and authorities may restrict access in certain areas for safety or environmental reasons. Water quality is generally acceptable for seasonal recreation but can vary, so people should follow local signage and guidance and avoid risky sections near dams, outlets or fast-flowing channels.
