Seram Sea Water Temperature Today & Regional Overview
We find every place where you can swim and show you the water temperature there today and throughout the year.
Current Water Temperature
The water temperature in the Seram Sea today ranges from 28.3°C (Ambon, Indonesia) to 29.6°C (Wahai, Indonesia).
As of today, the minimum water temperature in the Seram Sea is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating.
It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

Over the past month, the water temperature in the Seram Sea has remained almost unchanged. In general, the sea water temperature remains within the statistical range for this time of year.

The Seram Sea, lying in eastern Indonesia around Seram Island and the Maluku archipelago, is characteristically warm throughout the year. Sea surface temperatures generally range from about 26°C to 30°C. Seasonal variation is modest: during the drier southeast monsoon months (roughly May to October) surface temperatures commonly sit slightly lower, often between about 26°C and 29°C, while the wetter northwest monsoon period (roughly November to April) tends to bring warmer waters, typically in the 28°C to 30°C range. Local conditions can produce small-scale differences: shallow bays and lagoons warm more in calm weather, whereas deeper channels and areas with upwelling may be cooler by a degree or two.
Swimming Conditions
Swimming in the Seram Sea is widely possible and popular in sheltered beaches, coves and around reef systems because the water temperature is comfortable year-round and generally does not require thermal protection for surface swimming. However, swimming in open or channel waters can be hazardous due to strong currents, tidal exchanges and boat traffic, so swimmers are advised to choose protected areas or go with local guides. Coral reefs make many shallows excellent for snorkeling but also present abrasion risks, and seasonal jellyfish or drifting debris can occur. For scuba diving, most divers wear a light wetsuit (about 1–3 mm) for comfort during longer submerged periods even though the ambient temperature remains warm. Overall, the Seram Sea offers good swimming opportunities provided local conditions and safety considerations are observed.
