Flores Sea Water Temperature Today & Regional Overview
We find every place where you can swim and show you the water temperature there today and throughout the year.
Current Water Temperature
The water temperature in the Flores Sea today ranges from 28.5°C (Lombok, Indonesia) to 29.1°C (Gili Trawangan, Indonesia).
As of today, the minimum water temperature in the Flores Sea is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating.
It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

The Flores Sea, located in eastern Indonesia between the islands of Flores, Sumbawa and the Komodo archipelago, generally holds warm water temperatures that make it attractive for swimming and snorkeling. Sea surface temperatures typically range from about 24 °C to 30 °C over the year. During the warmer season, roughly December through March, surface waters commonly sit around 28–30 °C. In the cooler months, approximately June through August, temperatures often fall to about 25–27 °C, with transitional months seeing averages near 26–28 °C. Localized upwelling and deeper channels can produce slightly cooler pockets closer to 24 °C, while shallow lagoons and sheltered bays warm more quickly.
Swimming Conditions
Swimming is widely allowed and popular because the thermal conditions are generally comfortable for prolonged exposure. However, opportunities vary depending on location and season: many beaches, bays and reef areas are suitable for casual swimming and snorkeling when conditions are calm, while strong currents, tidal flows and boat traffic in some channels can make open-water swimming risky. Marine protected areas may limit access in certain zones for conservation reasons, and visibility and safety can change with seasonal weather. Visitors are advised to choose sheltered spots, heed local guidance and monitor conditions before entering the water.
