Celebes Sea Water Temperature Today & Regional Overview
We find every place where you can swim and show you the water temperature there today and throughout the year.
Current Water Temperature
The water temperature in the Celebes Sea today ranges from 29°C (Bitung, Indonesia) to 30.1°C (Sipadan Island, Malaysia).
As of today, the minimum water temperature in the Celebes Sea is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating.
It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

The Celebes Sea is a warm, tropical body of water bounded by the Philippines, Sulawesi and Borneo, and sea-surface temperatures reflect that equatorial setting. Typical year-round values sit roughly between 26 °C and 30 °C, with relatively little seasonal swing. In the drier months, often occurring from April through October, surface temperatures tend to be toward the upper end, commonly around 27–30 °C. During the wetter and windier period, roughly November through March, temperatures usually cool slightly to about 26–29 °C, and in some localized upwelling or deeper-water zones readings of 25 °C or as warm as 31 °C have been recorded. These modest variations mean the water remains comfortable for most visitors throughout the year.
Swimming Conditions
Swimming in the Celebes Sea is generally allowed and widely practiced, as the warm temperatures make it pleasant for bathing, snorkeling and diving. Many coastal resorts and reef areas attract swimmers because of clear water and abundant marine life. However, safety depends on local conditions: seasonal winds, monsoonal weather or storms can produce strong currents, rough surf and reduced visibility, making swimming unsafe at times. Marine hazards such as jellyfish, coral, sudden drop-offs and boat traffic are present in places. Local advice, posted warnings, and the presence of lifeguards or guides should be followed, and swimmers are best served by choosing sheltered beaches or organized snorkeling/diving operators who monitor conditions.
