Savu Sea Water Temperature Today & Regional Overview
We find every place where you can swim and show you the water temperature there today and throughout the year.
Current Water Temperature
The water temperature in the Savu Sea today ranges from 28°C (Kupang, Indonesia) to 28°C (Kupang, Indonesia).
As of today, the minimum water temperature in the Savu Sea is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating.
It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

The Savu Sea, located in eastern Indonesia, is a tropical body of water with relatively warm surface temperatures year-round. Typical sea surface temperatures generally fall between 25 °C and 30 °C, but there is a modest seasonal cycle. During the austral winter months (June–August) surface values often dip to around 24 °C–26 °C in some areas, while the warmest period in the austral summer (December–March) can see temperatures rising to about 28 °C–31 °C in sheltered shallows and bays. Transitional months in spring and autumn commonly register temperatures in the mid to high 20s °C. These values can vary locally with depth, currents, and upwelling; deeper or exposed areas influenced by strong currents tend to be slightly cooler than shallow reef flats and lagoons.
Swimming Conditions
Swimming in the Savu Sea is generally possible and popular where conditions are safe, because the warm water temperatures are comfortable for recreational bathing and snorkeling for much of the year. However, suitability for swimming depends on local factors rather than temperature alone: strong currents, tides, seasonal winds and rips—particularly in open straits and between islands—can make some spots hazardous. Coral reefs and rocky shorelines offer excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities, but swimmers should choose sheltered beaches and follow local advice or guides. Certain zones may be restricted for conservation or maritime traffic reasons, so checking local conditions and regulations is advisable before entering the water.
