** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Yantra River (Bulgarian: Янтра) runs through central northern Bulgaria and shows pronounced seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river commonly hovers near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice forming in sheltered stretches in cold spells. Spring warming brings temperatures into the range of about 4–14 °C (39–57 °F) as snowmelt and rains raise flows. In summer, surface waters in slower, shallow sections typically reach 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), though shaded, faster channels remain cooler and deep pools warm less. During autumn temperatures usually fall to about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) as air temperatures decline and discharge increases. Local conditions such as recent rainfall, depth, and flow strongly influence these averages, so measurements at a specific spot can differ from the general ranges.
Swimming in the Yantra is practiced in many places, particularly in calm, accessible stretches and in nearby reservoirs where conditions are safer. There is no nationwide ban on river swimming, but local regulations, water-quality advisories, and safety concerns can restrict access; agricultural runoff, occasional sewage inputs and variable currents mean bathing is not uniformly advisable. People are generally advised to choose designated swimming areas or municipal beaches, heed posted notices about water quality and hazards, and avoid strong currents, steep banks and polluted stretches.
