** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Stara reka (Стара река) is a typically mountain-fed Bulgarian river whose water temperature varies strongly with season and altitude. In winter the river can approach near-freezing conditions, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Spring snowmelt and cooler air keep temperatures in the range of about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as flows are higher and water is cold. In the warmest months, shallow and slower stretches may warm to approximately 12–22 °C (54–72 °F), though fast-flowing, shaded or higher-altitude sections often remain cooler. During autumn temperatures commonly fall into a mid range of 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air cools and flow regimes change.
Swimming in Stara reka is possible in summer where pools are calm, access is safe and no local restrictions apply, but it is not universally advisable. Many parts are subject to strong currents, cold-water shock even on hot days, hidden rocks and variable depth, and some sections may lie inside protected areas where bathing is forbidden to protect habitat. Local signage, water quality information and common-sense safety—supervision, gradual acclimatisation and avoiding swift sections—should guide decisions. In short, permitted where not officially restricted, but swim only in safe, suitable spots and be mindful of cold temperatures and natural hazards.
