The Váh is the longest river in Slovakia, stretching from the Tatras down to the Danube. Because it flows through different landscapes, the water temperature varies greatly along its course. In the upper mountain sections, the river is colder, often staying below 15°C even in summer. Further downstream, especially in the lowland regions, the water warms up more quickly, and during July and August it can reach 20–24°C, which makes it suitable for swimming.
Bathing in the Váh is popular mainly in calmer stretches, near river bends or places where the current is weaker. While it is not a classic “beach river,” locals often use it to cool down on hot days. Some areas are better suited for short refreshing swims, while others, especially around reservoirs built on the Váh, provide more comfortable conditions for longer stays in the water.
