Location & Local Information
In Šaľa, the river Váh flows broadly and calmly, carrying water from the central part of Slovakia. The temperature of the river here is influenced both by upstream reservoirs and by the warm climate of the lowlands. In spring, the water usually stays cool, around 12–15 °C, but as summer progresses it often reaches 20–23 °C. During particularly hot weeks in July and August, the Váh at Šaľa can even warm up to 24–25 °C, which makes short swims and cooling dips quite pleasant.
Although the Váh is not officially a bathing area in the town, locals sometimes use quieter stretches of the riverbanks for swimming or just refreshing themselves in the water. The current can be strong in some places, so bathing is more about quick immersion than long-distance swimming. Still, the combination of warm summer water and the natural setting along the Váh makes the river an inviting spot to cool down.
