The Styr River flows through several regions in north‐western Ukraine, including areas near the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant, and its temperature shows strong seasonal variation. In studies done in that area, measured water temperatures ranged from about 0.3 °C in cold periods up to ~24.6 °C during warm summer times. These values reflect typical winter lows (when ice and cold air dominate) and summer highs in more exposed stretches.

Swimming in the Styr is plausible during summer when water temperatures are closer to the upper end (low to mid-20s °C), particularly in shallower parts, or where flow is slower and sun exposure is good. However, there are caveats: in deeper, shaded, or faster flowing sections the water remains significantly cooler even in summer, which can make swimming less comfortable. Also, in early summer or late season the water often stays relatively cold for many. Moreover, safety (current, riverbed terrain, water quality) must always be considered.
