** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Suir, one of Ireland's longest rivers, flows through counties Tipperary, Waterford, and Kilkenny. Its water temperature experiences significant seasonal variation typical of Irish inland waterways. In the winter months, the water is cold, frequently falling into the range of 5∘C to 9∘C (41∘F to 48∘F). By mid-summer, the temperature warms considerably, making for a less severe dip, typically ranging between 15∘C and 18∘C (59∘F to 64∘F).
While swimming is generally not regulated or supervised in much of the main flow, and can be dangerous, it is a popular spot for informal wild swimming, particularly around towns like Carrick-on-Suir, where there are established, traditional entry points. However, the river's high flow rate and the presence of strong tides and currents in its lower, tidal reaches near Waterford city pose significant risks, meaning swimming there is strongly discouraged. The river and its banks are better utilized for other recreational activities, such as kayaking and walking along the Suir Blueway and visiting nearby historical sites like Cahir Castle and Ormond Castle.
