The Nera River flows along the border between Serbia and Romania, passing through a region of gentle hills, forests, and fertile plains. It has a mixed continental and sub-Mediterranean climate influence, which keeps the water relatively mild in summer and cool in winter. In spring, the river’s temperature usually ranges between 10 and 15 °C, while in summer it reaches 20–25 °C, occasionally up to 26 °C in calmer stretches. In autumn, it cools to around 14–18 °C, and in winter it often drops below 5 °C, sometimes forming thin ice near the banks. The river’s clear water and slow flow in lower areas make it suitable for recreation.
Swimming in the Nera River in Serbia is possible during summer, especially in July and August when the water becomes comfortably warm. Locals often swim or relax in shallow and calm sections, particularly near Bela Crkva and the surrounding villages.
