Current Water Temperature
Water Temperature in the Minija River today is 51°F.
Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 50°F (10°C) to 54°F (12°C). The water is slightly warmer, but still cool for most people. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Minija, a lowland river in western Lithuania, experiences marked seasonal shifts in water temperature. In winter the river commonly approaches freezing, around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) where ice can form in sheltered stretches. Spring sees a steady rise as snowmelt and warming air push temperatures into roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). Peak summer temperatures in shallow, slow-moving reaches typically range from about 17–24 °C (63–75 °F), though on very warm days and in sunlit pools readings can climb slightly higher. In autumn the water cools again to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures drop and river flow increases.
Swimming in the Minija is generally possible and commonly practiced in summer because many sections are shallow, accessible and not subject to blanket prohibitions. However, there is no universal lifeguard coverage or continuous water-quality monitoring along the whole river, so local conditions matter: agricultural runoff, submerged vegetation, variable currents, deeper pools, and obstacles near bridges can affect safety and cleanliness. Authorities or signs may restrict access in particular areas or during certain times, and winter ice-swimming should only be attempted in designated, supervised locations by experienced people. It is sensible to check local information, observe conditions, and use appropriate precautions before entering the water.
