** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Río Guadiana in Extremadura shows marked seasonal and local variation in water temperature. In winter surface waters commonly sit between about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while spring temperatures typically rise to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Summer is when the river and its associated reservoirs warm most, often reaching around 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) in shallower, slow-moving stretches; shallow backwaters and embalses can occasionally climb a couple degrees higher on very hot days. Autumn temperatures tend to fall back toward 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). These figures vary with depth, flow rate and local sunlight: deep channels and zones below dams remain cooler year-round, while shallow, stagnant lagoons warm more quickly.
Swimming in the Guadiana is possible and commonly practiced in many parts of Extremadura, especially at designated bathing spots and reservoir beaches where access is safe and water quality is monitored. However it is not universally permitted everywhere: areas near dams, intake structures, fast currents, or protected natural zones are often off-limits for safety or conservation reasons. Water quality can fluctuate after heavy rains or during algal blooms, and lifeguards are not always present, so swimmers should follow local signage, seasonal advisories and basic safety precautions when entering the river.
