** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The river Ätran (Swedish: Ätran) in Västra Götaland County shows pronounced seasonal variation in water temperature because of its flow, depth and regional climate. Typical spring temperatures range from about 0–8 °C (32–46 °F) as snowmelt and runoff cool the water. By early summer the river often warms to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), and in the warmest parts and shallow stretches during July and August surface temperatures can reach approximately 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). In autumn temperatures usually fall back to around 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), while winter conditions bring water close to freezing, commonly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and sometimes ice cover in protected reaches. Local conditions, shading, and flow rate produce variation, so measurements at one spot may not represent the whole river.
Swimming in Ätran is generally permitted where public access exists and there are no specific prohibitions. Many people swim recreationally in calmer, shallow sections during summer, but caution is advised because currents, cold pockets, uneven bottoms and submerged obstacles can pose risks. Water quality in much of the Ätran system is often good, supporting fish like trout and salmon, yet swimmers should respect private property, heed local signs and consider seasonal hazards such as strong spring flows, low visibility and the absence of lifeguards.
