Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wheeler Lake, a small mountain lake located in British Columbia, sits in a region characterized by cool alpine conditions and pristine natural surroundings. Its water temperature changes notably with the seasons due to elevation and snowmelt influence. In early spring, the lake is often just beginning to thaw, with temperatures hovering around 39–43°F (4–6°C). As the snow recedes and air temperatures rise, the surface warms slightly, reaching about 50–59°F (10–15°C) by late May or June. During midsummer, from July through early September, the lake’s surface temperature can reach 63–68°F (17–20°C) on warm, sunny days, though deeper areas remain much colder. By autumn, cooling air quickly drops the temperature again to around 52°F (11°C) or below.
Swimming in Wheeler Lake is allowed, but it is generally recommended for those accustomed to cooler mountain waters. The lake’s clean, clear water and tranquil setting make it an appealing spot for short swims, kayaking, or paddleboarding. However, because of its relatively high elevation and limited sunlight in some areas, the water remains cool even in midsummer. Most visitors choose to swim near the shore on warmer days, while others enjoy simply wading or relaxing by the water. The best time for swimming is between July and early September, when conditions are most comfortable.
