*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Douglas Lake, located in the south-central interior of British Columbia near Merritt, is a large, shallow freshwater lake surrounded by rolling grasslands and ranch country. Because of its elevation and open landscape, the lake’s water temperature changes noticeably with the seasons. In early spring, after the ice melts in April, the water remains quite cold at around 41–46°F (5–8°C). As air temperatures rise through May and June, the surface warms to approximately 55–64°F (13–18°C). The warmest period occurs in July and August, when the lake can reach 68–73°F (20–23°C) in its shallower sections. By late September, cooler nights and shorter days cause the temperature to fall again to below 59°F (15°C).
Swimming in Douglas Lake is allowed, but it is not a common activity compared to fishing or boating. The lake is known primarily for its excellent trout fishing and private ranch ownership, meaning much of the shoreline is not open for general public access. For those who do find permitted areas to enter the water, swimming is possible during the summer months when the temperature is most comfortable. However, the shallow depth and surrounding marshy terrain make it better suited for brief swims or wading rather than long recreational swimming sessions.
