** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Summit Lake in Nebraska follows the seasonal warming and cooling typical of shallow Midwestern reservoirs. In spring, surface temperatures generally run from about 45–65°F (7–18°C) as snowmelt and cool rains keep the water brisk. By mid to late summer the lake often warms to roughly 70–85°F (21–29°C) on the surface, with the warmest readings in August on calm, sunny days. In early fall temperatures usually fall back into the 50–70°F (10–21°C) range as air temperatures cool, and in winter the lake can approach freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), often forming ice where conditions allow.
Recreational swimming is typically allowed during the ice‑free months because Summit Lake is used for multiple outdoor activities, including bathing and boating, and is managed to support public recreation. That said, access depends on local management, posted rules and current water‑quality conditions: swimming may be restricted or discouraged when harmful algal blooms occur, bacterial counts are high, heavy boat traffic creates hazards, or ice is present. Lifeguards are not commonly provided at smaller Nebraska lakes, so swimmers should heed signage, wear life jackets as appropriate, and check current advisories from the agency that manages the lake before entering the water.
