*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Holmes Lake in Lincoln, Nebraska, tends to follow continental seasonal patterns for surface water temperatures. In spring (April–May) the lake commonly ranges from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as runoff and cool air keep temperatures low. By early summer (June) surface water usually warms into the 60–70°F range (15–21°C), and at the height of summer (July–August) it often reaches roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C), with occasional warm spells pushing parts of the surface toward the mid-80s°F (about 29°C). In autumn the lake cools again into the 50–60°F band (10–15°C) and in winter it can approach freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), sometimes producing ice cover depending on winter severity.
Swimming at Holmes Lake is not permitted under city park rules, largely for safety and resource-management reasons. The park does not provide lifeguard services, and the lake supports boating, fishing and wildlife habitat, which creates hazards and potential water quality concerns such as algal growth or fluctuating depths. Even when surface temperatures are pleasantly warm in midsummer, these factors and municipal regulations mean visitors should use designated swimming facilities elsewhere rather than entering the lake.
