*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Spider Lake in Minnesota follows the familiar seasonal pattern of shallow glacial lakes in the region. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures typically range from about 40–55°F (4–13°C) as the water warms. By early summer the surface usually climbs into the 60s°F (roughly 15–21°C), and at the height of summer it commonly reaches the low to upper 70s°F (21–27°C), occasionally approaching 80°F (26–27°C) during heat waves. In fall the surface cools back through the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C) before ice forms; under winter ice the surface is near freezing (32°F, 0°C) while deeper water remains closer to the maximum density temperature around 39°F (4°C).
Swimming is commonly permitted at public access points, resorts and private shorelines on Spider Lake, but whether it is advisable depends on conditions. Summer months offer the most comfortable water temperatures for recreational swimming, while spring, fall and under-ice conditions present cold-water and hypothermia risks. Water-quality issues such as blue‑green algae blooms, heavy vegetation, or local advisories can lead to temporary closures, so it’s wise to check current local notices, observe posted signs, and consider boat traffic and weather before entering the water.
